According to the annual edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII), released on July 24, 2019, by the World Intellectual Property Organization, India improved its ranking by five places to 52nd from 57th position last year.
The GII ranks 129 economies based on 80 indicators, ranging from intellectual property filing rates to mobile-application creation, education spending, and scientific and technical publications. Switzerland retained its number-one spot on the index. Other economies in the top 10 are: Sweden, the U.S., the Netherlands, the U.K., Finland, Denmark, Singapore, Germany and Israel.
GII’s theme for this year was: Creating Healthy Lives-The Future of Medical Innovation, and the findings of this year’s theme were presented at the global launch in New Delhi, India, where Piyush Goyal, India’s minister for Commerce and Industry, released the Global Innovation Index rankings.
In this year’s edition, GII analyzed the medical innovation landscape of the next decade, looking at how technological and non-technological medical innovation will transform the delivery of healthcare worldwide. It also explores the role and dynamics of medical innovation as it shapes the future of healthcare, and the potential influence this may have on economic growth.
