Miss India, Manushi Chhillar, won the coveted Miss World 2017 crown at a grand event in Sanya, China. The 20-year-old medical student from India’s northern state of Haryana, stood first among 126 women from all around the globe that took part in the pageant. Stephanie Hill, Miss England, was the first runner up, and Miss Mexico Alma Andrea Meza Carmona was second runner up in the 67th Miss World contest.
The big win for India comes after a 17 year hiatus when in 2000, Priyanka Chopra won the crown. Chopra currently stars in the ABC Television series Quantico

According to the Miss World website, Chhillar aims to be a cardiac surgeon and set up a chain of not-for-profit hospitals in the rural areas of India. A trained Indian classical dancer, Chhillar has a passion for outdoor sports and actively participates in paragliding, bungee jumping, snorkeling and scuba diving. She also sketches and paints, reports the Economic Times.
Her personal mottos: “When you cease to dream you cease to live” and “Courage to give flight to your dreams and the ability to believe in yourself makes life worth living.”
