Mumbai headquartered Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd announced that its U.S. subsidiary Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Inc, USA, received the second tentative approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration to market a generic medication to treat diabetes in the American market. The drug is Saxagliptin, which is the generic version of Onglyza of AstraZeneca AB, is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

According to Durham NC-based IQVIA sales data for the 12-month period ending December 2022, the Onglyza tablets, 2.5 mg and 5 mg market achieved annual sales of approximately $122.3 million.
Glenmark said its current portfolio consists of 179 products authorized for distribution in the U.S. marketplace. The drug firm has 46 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) pending approval with the USFDA, it added.
