The Technology Innovation Hub of the Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Delhi, and its iHub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC), have inaugurated their joint medical facility, the Medical Cobotics Center in New Delhi.
Cobotics refers to a robotic device designed, manufactured, and used to interact and cooperate with a human. Unlike a conventional robot which operates completely autonomously, a cobot integrates the cognitive sciences.
This Center is equipped with technologies that will enable advanced medical research and development in the areas of healthcare robotics and digital healthcare. It will also enable medical simulation and serve as a training facility for doctors, paramedics, technicians, engineers, biomedical researchers, and entrepreneurs across the country.
The training programs, ranging from basics to advanced, will be designed in consultation with leading doctors and experts, mainly drawn from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The Center will act as a test bed for many nascent start-ups in the medical field that are developing innovations in medical technology in digital medical healthcare and healthcare using AR/VR, AI, cobotics, robotoics, cognitive sciences, and more. It launched its first Call for Proposals from emerging start-ups, with funding up to Rs 1 crore.
Prof. Rangan Banerjee, director of IIT Delhi said, “We look forward to our Innovation Hub in Cobotics creating new cobotics-based interventions and innovations for affordable healthcare.”
This Center will also strive to develop smart solutions to improve the quality of patient care, augment operational efficiencies, and create safer work environments for healthcare practitioners.
