The second year’s U.K.-based Cable compiled data produced by M-Lab, a partnership between New America’s Open Technology Institute, Google Open Source Research, Princeton University’s PlanetLab and other supporting partners, found that the average global broadband speed measured during the year ending May 2017 was 7.4 Mbps. The average global broadband speed measured during year ending 29 May 2018 was 9.10Mbps – a rise of 23 percent.

Though this rise is considerable, the top 100 countries in the table have gained 5.43Mbps while the bottom 100 in the table have gained by an average of only 0.41Mbps. Singapore ranks as the world’s fastest country for the second year running with average speeds of 60.4 Mbps, with Yemen coming in last again at an average speed of just 0.31Mbps.

The five fastest countries have download speeds 88 times faster than the five slowest. India moved up 31 places for Mean Download Speeds in 2018 compared to the previous year when it was pegged at 03.13.
