Grundfos, the world’s largest pump manufacturer headquartered in Bierringbro, Denmark, will set up its new business Grundfos Lifelink that will provide modular ultra-filtration technology water treatment plants in India, in the southern city of Chennai. These plants will be located in rural areas and in urban areas where there is sizeable population but no source of treated drinking water.
“Grundfos India will be the global assembly site for the AQtap-the water dispenser,” Peter Todbjerg Hansen, managing director, Grundfos LifeLink A/S said.

SiliconIndia News reports that the water dispenser can be a standalone unit or it could also be connected to the water utility’s network and a mini-grid of water kiosks. Consumers would be given a smart card which could be loaded with water credit on payment of the required money.
While only 18 percent of the 833 million rural Indian population have access to treated water, 41 percent of them own a mobile phone and hence “the recharging of the card can be made through the mobile payment mode or by cash mode,” Hansen said.
