India’s Air Force will purchase two Phalcon/IL-76 Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems and 10 Heron TP unmanned air vehicles from Israel Aerospace Industries for $1.4 billion. Delivery of these items will be made over the next two to three years.
The Heron TPs will have sophisticated communication & intelligence systems, detection finders, signal parameters and emitter classification and geo-location capabilities, in addition to electronic surveillance measure for long-range automatic detection and identification of emitting targets, reports Defense World.
India’s army, navy and air force have a joint requirement of over 200 weaponized UAVs in the next 10 years and the ruling government wants future UAV requirements to be met through the Make in India initiative.
