Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched four broadband products developed by the Center for Development of Telematics in the hope of adding 250,000 rural communities under broadband services and enhance India’s Internet penetration from 300 million to 500 million within two-and-a-half years, reports BGR.
The Center for Development of Telematics launched two Wi-Fi products – Long Distance Wi-Fi and Solar powered Wi-Fi: the former will solve the connectivity problem of far flung rural areas, hilly terrains, highways, dense vegetation and tunnels, whereas the latter will negate the current dependence on power availability. A 100 GBPS optical fiber cable link was also launched to address the telecom operators’ requirement of optimizing the communication transport backbone in smart cities, IT parks, inter city traffic and data centers.
