India is hoping to incorporate American expertise in catapult launch technology into its recently announced indigenous 65,000-ton aircraft carrier INS Vishaal, India’s most ambitious aircraft carrier project. This was disclosed after the signing of the 10 year U.S.-India Enhanced Defense Framework Agreement by Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar.
INS Vishaal will carry an increased number of aircraft and helicopters, so a key technological requirement for it is the catapult assisted takeoff but arrested recovery capability. India is also interested in the latest American Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and Advanced Arrester Wire System for the new carrier reports Defense World.Net.
