Makers of Two – Wheelers and Three Wheelers electrics in India are now permitted to sell their vehicles without a battery. This way a third party can add a battery or provider of “energy as a service” can be the battery supplier. This could lower the overall cost of ownership, permits for a a more flexible ecosystem and accelerate the usage of electric mobility.
India is one of the largest markets for two wheeler and three wheeler vehicles for personal, commercial and industrial use and most use fossil fuel (gasoline/petrol, diesel, or natural gas).
According to MoneyControl, Naveen Munjal, Managing Director of Hero Electric said, “The policy is a welcome move. I am excited about the possibilities that exist in making EVs accessible to every individual in the country. All we need is a combination of such pioneering policies for it to work in the long term.”
“For this to take off and be able to efficiently pass on the benefit to the consumer, we ought to work towards a strong infrastructure that allows EV owners to charge and swap batteries wherever they require. I look forward to more such positive interventions,” Munjal added.
