Spanning 3 million square feet, and spread over 10 acres of land, the new Amazon campus (for which the foundation stone was laid in the last week of March) will have “thousands” of employees managing back-end operations of Amazon’s various global businesses. The facility will also house a technology development center. This campus, in the city of Hyderabad located in the southern state of Telengana, will be owned by the U.S.-based parent, Amazon.com Inc., and not by the Indian unit, Amazon Seller Services Pvt. Ltd, a spokeswoman clarified to Live Mint.
David Zapolsky, senior vice president and general counsel (legal) of Amazon, said the company was excited by the “growth momentum” it is witnessing in India. “For Amazon, India continues to be one of our highest priority investments and we plan to invest with a long-term focus,” he added.
