Charlotte, NC-based Honeywell was awarded a $80 milion contract from the Bangalore City Police Department to implement the Bangalore Safe City project. The project involves building a command center for the city’s police force and the installation and operation of thousands of cameras across the city.
The project is backed by the Indian government’s Nirbhaya Fund, and is one of eight similar efforts across cities aimed at creating a safe and secure environment for all citizens through the use of technology.
As part of the contract, Honeywell Automation India, a publicly traded subsidiary of Honeywell in India, will install 7,000 cameras across 3,000 locations across Bangalore. It will also use drones for surveillance. The system will have facial recognition and advanced analytics capabilities which the company will operate and maintain for five years.
The project, which will be managed by the Bangalore City Police, will be controlled by an integrated command and control center. Additionally, Honeywell will build a ‘Dial 100’ app as well as upgrade the police department’s existing Suraksha (safety) app.
Honeywell said it has delivered similar projects under the Smart Cities Mission in the states of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. The company added that its smart city systems connect over 100,000 Internet of Things sensors that benefit over 100 million people.
