Camden, NJ-based energy technology company Holtec International, Inc. will invest $680 million to build a facility in the western state of Maharashtra, India, dedicated to manufacture high-end nuclear power plant equipment. The Holtec Heavy Manufacturing Division plant will also be equipped to meet the “heavy weldment” needs of petroleum, chemical, aerospace, and other industries. The plant will operate under Holtec’s corporate nuclear and personnel safety programs.
An agreement to set up the nuclear equipment manufacturing facility was signed by Dr. Krishna Singh, president and CEO of Holtec, and government officials of Maharashtra.”The plant will help realize our goal of bringing the United States and India into a cooperative compact to deploy our walk-away safe SMR-160 reactor technology around the world,” said Singh.
Holtec International senior vice president Jyoti Chatterjee said that the proposed plant will “put India on the map of nations exporting elite nuclear equipment, while bringing direct economic benefits to the domestic nuclear energy generation program.”
