According to The Hollywood Reporter, CA Media, the Asian investment arm of the Chernin Group, the media and entertainment-platform company led News Corp veteran Peter Chernin, is leading a new $2.8 million seed-financing round in Graphic India which produces digital comics and animation for the Indian market. The company plans to unveil a number of digital products and apps in India, offering free digital comics and videos in English and local languages.
Earlier, Graphic India had raised $2.5 million in initial seed financing from CA Media, which acquired a minority stake in the company.
Graphic India’s character Chakra the Invisible has been created with comic icon Stan Lee of Spiderman fame, and it will soon become a Bollywood live-action feature.
Among Graphic India projects licensed for Hollywood theatrical deals are Ramayan 3392AD, in development with Mandalay Pictures; The Sadhu, which is in development with producer Mark Canton(300 films); The Leaves, in development at Lionsgate; and Titans, in development with J. Michael Straczynski (screenwriter on Thor, World War Z) and Chernin Entertainment (Planet of The Apes franchise).
