The Ford Motor Company has decided to invest $620 million in an R&D center in Chennai according to the Economic Times of India
“There’s a tremendous engineering talent here, and we want to tap into that and grow our product development capability here methodically over a period of time,” CEO Mark Fields had said on his last visit to India.
People close to the company told the newspaper that the development of a new B500 sedan project will be the first project on which Indian R&D team will play an important design, development and engineering role. The B500 project may eventually also spawn out an MPV in the future. With more than $2 billion investment in India, Ford currently employs 14,000 Indians across its two plants in Sanand, Gujarat and in Chennai, and some of its Global Services Business operations in Coimbatore and Gurgaon.
