According to provisional data released by India’s Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, India’s buffalo (that’s water buffalo not “American” buffalo, which is really bison) meat exports have risen by 10% to $4.78 billion in FY 2015. “Larger shipments from India … (have) more than offset declines by Brazil, Uruguay, and the United States,” says an April report entitled Livestock and Poultry: World Markets and Trade released by the United States Department of Agriculture.
Beef has overtaken traditional export favorite basmati rice as India’s largest agricultural food export in terms of value, according to data from India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products’ Export Development Authority.
