Air India has selected Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, to provide a comprehensive suite of avionics hardware for the airline’s expanding fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The deal, announced at the Singapore Airshow 2024, includes communication, navigation, surveillance equipment, and air data sensors designed to enhance safety, fuel efficiency, and operational performance.
Craig Bries, Vice President and General Manager of Avionics Sales, Marketing and Aftermarket Services at Collins Aerospace, highlighted the collaborative nature of the agreement, stating it will be “foundational to Air India’s 737 MAX fleet for years to come.” He expressed confidence that Collins’ advanced avionics suite will deliver exceptional performance and reliability, contributing to Air India’s continued success.
Nipun Aggrawal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer at Air India, welcomed Collins Aerospace as a partner in the airline’s transformation journey, noting that the avionics hardware suite will serve both their existing and growing 737 MAX fleet.
The advanced avionics from Collins will work in harmony to improve operations throughout all phases of flight on Air India’s MAX aircraft. Multi-mode receivers will enable precise satellite and ground-based navigation, facilitating high position accuracy, improved integrity, and future upgrades through software updates. Collins’ radio altimeters will provide accurate digital height measurements during critical approach, landing, and climb-out phases while actively mitigating potential 5G cellular interference.
Furthermore, Air India will receive Collins’ MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radar, which can predict adverse weather conditions, actively display and analyze cells, and provide real-time route adjustments. This capability aims to reduce long deviations and delays, ensuring a smoother journey for passengers.
