Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) partnered with Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram near New Delhi to enhance pediatric liver transplant facilities at Fortis.
The purpose of the collaboration is for the family to seek a second, independent opinion for pediatric liver transplant patients who are either already admitted to Fortis or are seeking admission. The doctors in CHLA will review the medical records and diagnostics and will discuss the proposed treatment plan/alternate treatment modalities for pediatric patients who are being recommended a liver transplant.
Mahipal Singh Bhanot, senior Vice President & Business Head, Fortis Memorial Research Institute said, “Timely diagnosis and treatment are the key factors for a successful liver transplant. In most of the cases when a patient is advised to undergo a major surgery, the patient’s family often wants to have a second opinion before going ahead with the surgery. The collaboration with CHLA will help the family get an independent opinion prior to the surgery/treatment.”
Dr. Rohit Kohli, chief of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at CHLA said, “The liver transplant program at CHLA, led by Surgical Director Yuri Genyk, MD, is one of the largest pediatric liver transplant programs in the United States, where close to 500 liver transplants have been performed in children since 1998. My team and I relish the opportunity to provide expert, compassionate guidance and support to patient families in India through this partnership.” (Dr. Kohli and India Expert Gunjan Bagla were recently on a panel together at the TieCon Southwest Conference in California).
