Toronto, Canada-based social storytelling platform Wattpad, partnered with Redwood City, CA-headquartered Times Bridge, the global investments and partnerships arm of Indian media group The Times of India, to grow its presence in India.
Wattpad uses machine learning to discover stand-out stories among the over 565 million stories on its platform, which are then transformed into books. It recently launched Wattpad Books, a new publishing division for its popular stories. The company has a global community of 70 million users, of which 2.6 million are in India as end of 2018.
Under the partnership with Times Bridge, Wattpad will grow its local community of readers and writers. It also plans to establish new strategic partnerships and create opportunities for Wattpad Studios to work with local partners to turn Wattpad stories into TV shows, films, and digital projects.
