United States Trade Representative (USTR) named Brendan Lynch as the Assistant United States Trade Representative for South and Central Asia. Brendan Lynch has been serving in an acting capacity in this role since March, 2023 under former President Biden. USTR is a part of the White House and distinct from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Lynch already visited India last week for discussions relating to a bilateral trade and investment treaty with India

In his previous role as Deputy Assistant United States Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, Lynch was responsible for developing and implementing U.S. trade policy across 15 countries. His duties included managing the U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum and coordinating activities under Trade and Investment Framework Agreements with regional partners.
Lynch’s career at USTR began in 2013 in the Office of Agricultural Affairs, where he advocated for US agricultural trade interests internationally and managed bilateral negotiations with various countries including those in South and Central Asia, Taiwan, Israel, Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, and Russia. He later served as Director for India, overseeing the bilateral trade relationship between the US and India.
Before joining USTR, Lynch worked as an International Trade Analyst at the US International Trade Commission, providing economic analysis of free trade agreements and advising Congressional committees and USTR on trade barriers affecting U.S. exports in key sectors and markets.
