Best Buy Expands India Tech Workforce Amid Growing GCC Trend

Headquartered in Richfield, Minnesota, U.S. electronics retailer Best Buy is  expanding its India-based workforce, primarily to bolster its digital and technology capabilities. The company currently employs close to 350 people at its Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bangalore, with plans to increase that number to approximately 500 in the coming months. According to Nithya Subramanian, senior director of Data & AI COE, hiring will span multiple functions, including AI engineers, software developers, and product managers.

India has become a strategic hub for global companies seeking skilled tech talent, with GCCs evolving from cost-saving back offices into innovation centers supporting operations, finance, and R&D. Best Buy’s Bangalore office is now its largest tech hub globally, despite the company having no retail presence in India. The broader GCC market in India is projected to grow significantly, reaching up to $105 billion by 2030, according to a report by Nasscom and Zinnov.
