Amway will invest up to $100 million to set up its first wholly-owned manufacturing plant in India, besides enhancing its infrastructure and opening more offices across the country. Amway leads the direct sales market in India, with almost 40 percent market share.
Today, the company sells personal care and nutritional products produced by seven contract manufacturers across India with sales of $395 million in 2010; the new factory will double its capacity. At the same time, Amway India CEO, William Pinckney announced that the company plans to add 10-15 customer experience centers in cities all over India. Amway will also enter the water purification and air purification markets in the next couple of years.
