After launching Project Armada to improve its logistics services in the U.S., Amazon has introduced the plan in India. Under this project, Amazon will partner with logistics companies in India which will give vehicles on lease to Amazon’s sellers to effect deliveries.
This step enables the company to cut down its transport costs as well as its dependency on third-party logistics partners. (Per the company’s latest filings, the platform recorded its shipping cost increase from $9 billion in the first six months of 2017 to over $12 billion in 2018.) Amazon India claims that it has nearly doubled its last-mile service partner network to 700 stations in 500 cities and towns.

To encourage vendors to stock more products ahead of India’s festive season, Amazon India:
- Reduced both its storage charges as well as seller fees in five categories
- Launched a Hindi version of its online shopping website to bring new people from smaller cities on its platform
- Enhanced Alexa‘s skills to enable it to learn Hindi and other Indian languages from its customers
