Amazon‘s Global Selling program is set to significantly boost Indian exports in 2024, with the e-commerce giant expecting to facilitate $5 billion in sales of small-ticket items from Indian exporters to international markets such as the U.S. and UK. This marks a substantial increase from the nearly $3 billion in exports achieved in 2023.
Launched in 2015, the program now involves approximately 150,000 small exporters across India who can directly sell their products to overseas consumers using Amazon’s platform. The company projects that by the end of 2024, these Indian businesses will have cumulatively surpassed $13 billion in e-commerce exports.
This initiative highlights India’s growing importance in global supply chains and reflects a broader trend among multinational corporations to diversify their supply sources away from China. Walmart, for instance, announced in 2020 its plan to increase annual supplies from India to $10 billion by 2027, up from about $3 billion at that time.
To support this growth, Amazon has partnered with India’s commerce ministry and trade associations to connect with small manufacturers nationwide. The focus is on products that are easy to ship directly to international customers and are less affected by import taxes, such as textiles, jewelry, household items, and Ayurveda products.

Amazon and Walmart’s Flipkart have had a significant impact on India’s retail landscape in recent years. They have invested billions of dollars to source supplies from small businesses and attract consumers through competitive pricing strategies.
Furthermore, Amazon has committed to increasing its investments in India to $26 billion by 2030, including funds for its cloud business. This commitment, announced in June 2024, underscores the company’s long-term vision for the Indian market and its role in facilitating global trade for Indian businesses.
