Headquartered in Belgium, AB InBev, the world’s largest brewer, has announced plans to invest approximately $50 million to expand its brewery operations in India’s southern state of Karnataka. T
The investment will be directed toward enhancing and expanding AB InBev’s existing brewery in Mysore, which currently produces popular brands such as Budweiser Premium, Budweiser Magnum, and Hoegaarden. This move aligns with the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, following a previous announcement in 2022 of a $60.6 million investment to increase production capacity in India.
Karnataka holds strategic importance for AB InBev, as it is one of India’s top beer markets, consuming approximately 11% of the national total of beer annually. The state already hosts AB InBev’s brewery in Mysore, and a Global Capability Center in Bangalore, where the company is headquartered. Additional facilities including sales offices, breweries, and a Growth Analytics Center are spread across India.
AB InBev’s commitment to Karnataka comes amidst competition from other global beer makers in the state, including United Breweries, Bira, and Carlsberg. The company’s investment not only reinforces its position in the beer market but also signals its intention to expand into other categories such as gin, rum, whiskey, and non-alcoholic products.
This investment demonstrates AB InBev’s confidence in the Indian market and Karnataka’s potential as a key growth driver for the company’s operations in South Asia. It also aligns with Karnataka’s efforts to attract foreign investment and boost its industrial sector, as evidenced by the state delegation’s active engagement with global companies at the World Economic Forum.
