United Kingdom India East India Company
The East India Company began as a trading company in 1600 and went on the rule the entire nation of India. Its ships first came to India in 1608 and the company started establishing trading posts and operations all over the country.
The East India Company transformed from trading to ruling after meeting military successes in India. Apart from India, the East India Company established trade in many other parts of Asia. It also created colonies like Singapore. The company exported opium grown in India to China.
The British government and royalty backed it and gained control over the company’s affairs. After a violent and widespread uprising in 1856 (called the Indian Mutiny by Britain and the First Battle of Independence by the Indians), the East India Company was dissolved in the 1870s while the British Crown took over the responsibility of ruling India.
