United Kingdom India Hinduja family
The London based Hinduja brothers (Srichand, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok) are owners of the Hinduja Group. With a net worth of $9 billion, the brothers are among the richest people both in India and in the UK. Their father, Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, learnt the ropes of the business in Mumbai, before starting his first company in Iran in 1919.
The Group moved its headquarters to Europe in 1979. Today the Hinduja Group employs 70,000 people and has a presence in 37 countries, with India accounting for 17% of its global investments. Their diverse business interests include old economy sectors such as transport, energy, banking, international trading, and healthcare, as well as relatively new sectors such as technology, media and telecom. In 2010, the Hinduja Group was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in London as part of the Asian Business Awards for their contributions to UK’s Asian community.
