DoorDash, the local commerce platform based in San Francisco, California, has opened a hub in Hyderabad, in southern India, with 500 employees. The company plans to grow the team to more than 3,000 over the next two years, The Hindu BusinessLine reported.
The Hyderabad team will start with customer experience and integrity work, along with general and administrative roles. It will handle customer support for consumers, merchants and delivery partners, which DoorDash calls Dashers, across the company’s markets.
The customer experience and integrity operation is one of three service centers DoorDash runs itself, alongside Tempe, Arizona, and Mexico City. According to a company statement, DoorDash operates in more than forty countries, serves more than fifty-six million monthly active consumers and handles more than three billion orders a year.
D Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s minister for information technology and industries, inaugurated the facility. He said the hub could add more specialized integrity, fraud-review and technical capabilities over time. He also said the center shows that global digital businesses can build and run key parts of their operations from Hyderabad.
The Economic Times reported that the center adds to Hyderabad’s growing roster of global capability centers.
Why it matters. The hub gives DoorDash a third service center that it runs itself, and it puts support and fraud-review work, not only engineering, in India.
