DePuy Synthes, the orthopedics business of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, has announced plans to establish a new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bangalore. The center will serve as a global engine for innovation, engineering, and enterprise services. It will also be a hub for product innovation and technology development supporting the company’s worldwide operations.
The GCC will bring together technology, data, and business capabilities to advance clinical innovation and operational excellence for patients, surgeons, and healthcare partners around the world. Its focus will be technology, digital capabilities, and global business operations. At launch, it will host software development, data and AI, enterprise applications, technology services, cybersecurity, and more.
“India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world for orthopedic care, and this investment deepens our long-term commitment to patients, surgeons, and colleagues here,” said Namal Nawana, Worldwide President, DePuy Synthes.
500 hires, with technology roles in the lead
Over the next 24 months, DePuy Synthes expects to build a team of 500 professionals in Bengaluru, with room to grow as the center matures. Technology roles will make up a key part of that team. Planned hiring covers:
- Digital technology, software engineering, data analytics, AI, and automation
- Cybersecurity and healthcare technology innovation
- Finance, supply chain, procurement, and other business functions that support the center’s broader global operations mandate.
The company says it will target professionals at the intersection of software engineering and healthcare. It will prioritize people who combine deep engineering expertise with healthcare domain knowledge. That profile fits two goals: the center’s focus on technology that supports clinical and operational outcomes, and the company’s digital innovation agenda in orthopedic care.
What the center will do
The Bengaluru center will act as a technology hub for DePuy Synthes’ global operations. Its teams will work on advanced analytics, automation, digital health solutions, and enterprise transformation, collaborating with colleagues across international markets. The GCC will provide technology and engineering capabilities to support the company’s global business requirements. It is also expected to contribute to digital transformation, technology-enabled operational improvements, and data-driven decision-making.
The center is one of the larger GCC commitments by a multinational medical device company in India.
Leadership
Nicholas Parrotta will lead the center. Experienced technology leaders will support its planning, launch, and future operations, including:
- Dr. Jai Ganesh, Chief Technology Officer, who will lead technology engineering, architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity engineering, and digital platforms
- Nagaraj Bhat, GCC Leader, who will help establish local operations and build the center’s leadership team
Why this matters for medtech leaders
Healthcare and medical technology companies increasingly use GCCs in India to build specialized technology capabilities. India’s GCC sector added a record 510,000 jobs in the most recent reporting period. That figure reflects how much offshore investment is now concentrated in India’s technology corridor.
DePuy Synthes is placing core engineering and technology work in India, not just support functions. For medtech executives deciding where to build their own engineering, data, and enterprise capabilities, the move is worth watching.
