Agilisium, a life sciences technology company from Southern California, will move its Asia headquarters from Chennai, to Hyderabad, Business Standard reported. Hyderabad will join Chennai and Pune, in western India, as a core site, and the company plans a workforce of 5,000 specialized professionals within five to seven years.
The company said it chose Hyderabad for the city’s standing in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology and for the life sciences support offered by the state of Telangana. Agilisium entered the life sciences field in 2018 and now works across research and drug discovery, clinical development, manufacturing and commercial operations.
The company expects to end 2026 with revenue of over $72 million and to pass $100 million in annual life sciences revenue in 2027.
Founder and chief executive Raj Babu said the company does not think of itself as a technology services firm. Agilisium recruits graduates in biotechnology, microbiology, pharmacology and medicine and trains them in technology as what it calls forward deployment experts, DT Next reported in an interview this month. The company has trained nearly 100 and wants more than 700 next year.
Agilisium’s global workforce is 1,400, with between 700 and 800 in Chennai and nearly 200 in Hyderabad. Babu expects Hyderabad to surpass Chennai in headcount. The company is bootstrapped and is open to strategic partners, he said. India supplies 5% of its revenue now, and Babu expects that share to reach between 15% and 20%
“India has proven its ability to build globally competitive technology businesses,” Babu said in the company’s announcement. “The next opportunity is to combine this strength with scientific expertise, deep industry knowledge and proprietary IP to transform global industries.”
