In fiscal 2022 India exported defense items and technology worth a record $1.63 billion, a 54.1% increase over the previous year, said Sanjay Jaju, Additional Secretary for Defense Production at the country’s Ministry of Defense.
The private sector accounted for 70% of the exports, while state-owned firms accounted for the rest. For this period, the U.S. was a major buyer. Philippines, the Middle-East, and African countries also bought defense equipment from India.

While India’s defense imports from the U.S. have gone up significantly in recent years, Indian companies are increasingly becoming a part of the supply chains of U.S. defense companies.
Talking to the press, Defense Secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar said 75 newly developed AI products and technologies with applications in defense, will be launched. These products are in the domains of automation, unmanned robotics systems; cyber security; human behavior analysis; intelligent monitoring systems; logistics and supply chain management; speech/voice analysis and Command, Control, Communication; Computer & Intelligence; Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems; and operational data analytics.
