U.S. Opens New Consulates, Increases Staff in India

A new U.S.consulate has recently been inaugurated at Hyderabad, India, said U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, during an interactive session organized by the New Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation.

“We are increasing the staff strength in New Delhi, and premises have been located in Bangalore and Ahmedabad for setting up new consulates. The delay in issuance of visas was due to the large number of applicants, ” he added.

Garcetti further noted that the number of U.S. visas being issued in India had increased by one-third in recent weeks, and the embassy was likely to issue 10-15 percent more visas than usual in the current calendar year.

Garcetti believes that the U.S. India-relationship is the most defining relationship of this century.”The relationship is not just U.S. plus India. It is an exponential relationship,” he stated.
