Hyderabad, India-based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. and Bayer have entered into a partnership to market and distribute a second brand of the drug Vericiguat in India. Under the agreement, Bayer has granted non-exclusive rights to Dr. Reddy’s to sell Vericiguat under the brand name Gantra.

Vericiguat is a soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator indicated, along with guideline-based medical therapy, for adults with symptomatic chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (less than 45%), following a recent worsening heart failure event that required hospitalization or outpatient IV diuretic treatment.
The drug works on a pathway not currently targeted by existing heart failure treatments. Clinical data shows it can reduce the combined risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalizations in this patient population. With 8-10 million people suffering from heart failure, India has one of the largest populations with this condition globally.
Heart failure is a chronic, progressive condition where the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen. Reduced ejection fraction means the heart muscle doesn’t contract effectively, so it can’t pump with enough force to push enough blood into circulation.
This partnership aims to increase access to Vericiguat in India by introducing a second brand to the market. Having an additional supplier and brand can improve affordability and availability for Indian heart failure patients who may benefit from this novel drug that complements existing therapies.
