NetApp, the data storage company in San Jose, California, says India is its fastest-growing market in Asia and the home of its largest global capability center.
The company’s chief executive, George Kurian, made the case in an interview in Las Vegas, where NetApp holds its Insight 2026 conference. “India has been the fastest-growing market in Asia, and we are always looking to grow faster,” Kurian told the Press Trust of India, as Business Standard reported.
Two roles for one country
NetApp is a data infrastructure company. It provides data storage, data services and cloud operations solutions. According to the report, India serves it in two ways.
As a market, India is led by banks and financial institutions, manufacturers, information technology services firms and government departments at the central and state level. NetApp also holds the top position in India’s all-flash storage market, the report said.
As an engineering base, NetApp’s global capability center in Bengaluru, in southern India, is the company’s largest. It employs 4,000 engineers and handles most of NetApp’s global research and development, according to the report. Kurian said the center consistently grows faster than the rest of the business.
What NetApp announced at Insight
The India comments came alongside product news. NetApp introduced Novus, a storage architecture for artificial intelligence workloads that it says supports a zettabyte-scale file system and more than 100 terabytes per second of performance. SiliconANGLE reported that Novus pairs a data layer with a metadata layer that scales on its own.
Why this matters
NetApp reports both roles from one country: its largest engineering center and its fastest-growing Asian market are in India. For executives weighing an India strategy, that pairing underscores the rising importance of India in the global marketplace.
