A.P. Moller – Maersk will carry out its first planned drydocking in India, according to a The Hindu BusinessLine report of a company release. The container ship Maersk Chattogram, which flies the Singapore flag, is due at the Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai in southern India.
Maersk, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, describes itself as an integrated container logistics company operating in 130 countries, with more than 100,000 employees and more than 700 container vessels.
The work includes the ship’s scheduled special survey, plus maintenance and overhaul of the hull and structure, machinery, equipment and propulsion systems. The yard will lift the vessel out of the water with what the release calls the largest shiplift system in India.
The job is the first operational milestone under an agreement the two companies signed during India Maritime Week 2025. That agreement set a framework to explore cooperation on shipbuilding and ship repair and to share knowledge on global standards.
Dinesh Kumar Balraj, head of fleet operations East at Maersk, said in the release: “The drydocking of Maersk Chattogram in India is a meaningful step towards turning our collaboration with L&T into action.” He said Maersk is aligning its global technical requirements with the growing capabilities of shipyards, suppliers and maritime service providers in India.
Arun Ramchandani, head of precision engineering and systems at L&T, said the docking advances the partnership under the agreement and a framework deal between the two companies.
Maersk’s fleet and technical teams will work with L&T and subcontractors, suppliers and service providers in India.
