Dr. Pretha Reddy is a leading example of second generation successful entrepreneurs who have taken their parents’ entrepreneurial venture to the next level. Apollo Hospitals, a dream nurtured and given shape in the year 1983 by Preetha’s father Dr. Prathap Reddy, Today, with over 8,500 beds across 50 hospitals, and a significant presence at every touch-point of the medical value chain, Apollo Hospitals is one of Asia’s largest healthcare groups.
She holds a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Stella Maris College Chennai, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Madras University. Preetha has a formal training in fine-arts at Kalakshetra, Chennai. In recognition of her outstanding work in the field of healthcare, Preetha Reddy was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by the Tamil Nadu, Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.
Dr. Preetha has been the Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, since February, 2011. Preetha served as the Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals from 1991 to 1993. She has been an Executive Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited since 1989. In addition to this, she is a Member of the Wipro Business Leadership Council and a Governing Board Member of Xavier Labor Research Institute Jamshedpur.
She has played a key role in the getting JCI Accreditation for Apollo Hospitals and had initiated partnerships with telecom providers and Apollo Hospitals pioneered m-health solutions in India in order to transform the healthcare delivery across India. While her at helm of Apollo Hospitals, its revenues grew manifold.
Preetha was a Founding Member of the National Quality Council, an organization which had provided the guidelines on minimum quality standards to Indian Hospitals. Dr Preetha Reddy was ranked in the International list of ‘50 Most Powerful Women in Business’, by Fortune in 2010 and 2011, and in ‘The Most Powerful Women in Business’ List compiled by Fortune India 2011. She has been a regular in the Business Today’s list of Powerful Business Women since 2006. She has been awarded ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ for distinguished service in the field of Social Science from the Loyola Forum for Historical Research.
Apart from her corporate work, she also involves her in the CSR activities such as SACHI (Save a Child’s Heart Initiative), an endeavour to treat underprivileged children with congenital heart diseases. At the tender age of 19, soon after she completed college, she was married to Vijay Kumar Reddy, an industrialist, and has two sons from this marriage.
