In India, Pfizer has three business divisions; the pharmaceutical division, the Animal Health Division, and the Research and Development Division. Pfizer had to overcome the challenge of the extreme competition in the Indian pharmaceutical market. Pfizer succeeded in the Indian market because the effort they put in brand building, its Rx to OTC transition strategy, use of Optima, a sales force automation tool, to minimize sales force administration. To Pfizer, India has been a clinical studies center since 1995, it once spent $3million in 2002.
