Doing business in Tamil Nadu: It is the southernmost state of India and is one of the most developed states of the country. The focus on social development and education has always been of great importance to Tamil Nadu. It is one of the most literate states in the country today. Tamil Nadu houses some of the many sought after educational institutes in the country such as the Indian Institute of Technology Chennai, Anna University, Loyola College, Christian Medical College and Hospital Vellore, Madras Medical College, and Annamalai University.
Industry
Agriculture is Tamil Nadu’s main industry. The state produces rice, bananas, tomato, tapioca, drumstick, brinjal (eggplant), onion, flowers, natural rubber, groundnut, sapota, sugarcane, tea, coffee, and coconut in abundance. The state is also a leading producer of livestock, fish, and poultry.
In addition to agriculture, Tamil Nadu also has its fair share of automobile, textile, software, electronics, and food & beverage industries. In fact, many big names such as Hyundai, Ford, TCS, Tata, BHEL, Wipro, and Infosys have a large presence here.
Infrastructure
Tamil Nadu can be accessed through road, rail, sea, and air. An important international airport is located in Chennai. The other two international airports are located at Tiruchchirapalli and Coimbatore. Tuticorin, Salem, and Madurai also have airports. The major sea ports of the state are Chennai, Tuticorin, and Ennore. Chennai communication systems are so effective that it can handle most of container traffic.
