Amneal Pharmaceuticals has opened a new administrative office in Ahmedabad, in western India, Pharmabiz reported. The company, based in Bridgewater, New Jersey, develops and sells generic and specialty drugs and biosimilars.
The office is on Cliantha Road, covers 335,000 square feet and will house 1,200 employees. The reports put the investment at $15 million.
The office brings key teams together. Amneal’s operations in India cover manufacturing, research and development, quality and commercial work, including a commercial office in Mumbai, in western India. The company’s global network spans the United States, India and Ireland.

“India is an important part of our network, complementing our significant and growing U.S. manufacturing footprint,” said Chirag Patel, co-founder and co-chief executive officer of Amneal.
Amneal is also advancing plans for two new manufacturing plants in Gujarat. One will focus on peptide synthesis, and the other on sterile fill-finish manufacturing.
Whalesbook reported that the Ahmedabad office will serve as a central hub for research and development, and noted risks that include scrutiny from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and possible delays in commissioning the new plants.
The move shows a U.S. generic drug maker adding space in India for teams that serve its global business, while it plans new plants there.
