D. E. Shaw group, the investment and technology development firm in New York, NY, plans a new office of more than 600,000 square feet in Hyderabad, in southern India. The firm announced it on October 7 at an event marking three decades of operations in India.
The office will sit in Grava Business Park in Neopolis, Kokapet, and is due to open in 2027, according to Newsmeter. The company held the celebration at its current office in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The new space will operate alongside that office, the Telangana Tribune reported.
The firm’s India business began in Hyderabad in 1996 with twenty employees. It added offices in Bengaluru, in southern India, and Gurugram, in northern India, in 2023. It now employs more than 2,000 people across the three cities, and the teams build technology and provide research and operations capabilities for the group. D. E. Shaw, founded in 1988, reported more than $115 billion in investment and committed capital as of September 1, 2026, according to India Education Diary.
“Hyderabad is where D. E. Shaw India began, and 30 years on, it remains central to our story,” said Chaitanya Gorrepati, a managing director and member of the D. E. Shaw India Operating Committee, according to India Education Diary. Eddie Fishman, a managing director and member of the group’s Executive Committee, credited the skills and rigor of the India teams, the Telangana Tribune reported.
The state’s information technology and industries minister, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, attended. He called the new office “not merely another workplace” and “a strong signal of the company’s confidence in Hyderabad’s future,” Newsmeter reported. The Telangana Tribune reported that he said the state’s young talent pool attracts global capability centers and financial-services firms, and that the government will keep supporting infrastructure, talent development and ease of doing business.
The Telangana Tribune also cited CBRE data from early October that lists 600,000 square feet leased by D. E. Shaw at Grava Tower 1 among Hyderabad’s third-quarter office deals. The company did not disclose an investment amount.

Why this matters: D. E. Shaw’s India operation grew from twenty employees in 1996 to more than 2,000 people in three cities, and the firm is now adding a lease of more than 600,000 square feet. That shows how a U.S. financial firm can build technology and research work in India and keep adding to it.
