CoreWeave Brings Its AI Cloud to India

CoreWeave, the AI cloud provider in Livingston, New Jersey, will build its first data centers in India. The company said on October 7 that it will use 240 megawatts of capacity at the Taloja campus of AdaniConneX in Navi Mumbai, in western India. CoreWeave will be the only tenant, and the first phase is due online in mid-2028.

The capacity sits in three buildings of eighty megawatts each. CoreWeave can double it by adding another 240 megawatts on the same campus. AdaniConneX is a 50:50 data center joint venture. The investment is expected to reach multiple billions of dollars over the life of the project, according to a report in Mint. CoreWeave has not given a figure.

CoreWeave will fill the buildings with the latest Vera Rubin chips from Nvidia. The company says the sites will train and run AI models, handle reasoning tasks and power AI agents. The rooms that hold the chips will use direct liquid cooling, and the chilled water system will not rely on evaporation. CoreWeave will also open an office in India and hire locally.

“India has the talent, developers, and ambition to become a major center of AI innovation,” said Sachin Jain, CoreWeave’s chief operating officer, in the announcement.

India is CoreWeave’s second market in Asia. It announced its first Asian data center projects, in Indonesia, in August. At its August earnings call, CoreWeave reported approximately 4.2 gigawatts of contracted power.

The company is entering a market that is adding capacity fast. India has built approximately 2.2 gigawatts of operating data center capacity over three decades. According to a July report from Wood Mackenzie, capacity should reach twelve gigawatts by 2030, with capacity built for AI work growing nearly twenty-four-fold to 6.5 gigawatts. Amazon, Microsoft and Google have together pledged nearly $57 billion to their cloud operations in the country. AdaniConneX is also among the companies behind Google’s large data center project in India.

For American executives weighing AI work in India, the announcement adds a U.S. cloud provider to a market that Amazon, Microsoft and Google have already committed to.
