Linde Secures Gujarat Land for a Second India Semiconductor Gas Facility

Linde, the industrial gases company with headquarters in Woking, England and Dublin, Ireland, has secured eight acres of land in Sanand, in western India, for a second facility to supply gases to semiconductor packaging plants in the area. Sanand sits in Gujarat, the state at the center of India’s push to build a domestic chip-making industry.

Milan Sadhukhan, managing director of Linde India, said the company is in discussions with several semiconductor packaging customers as it builds out its Gujarat operations, according to a report from The Economic Times carried by TradingView. Linde India already runs an air-separation plant in Dahej, in western India, and a packaged-gases unit in Ahmedabad, also in western India, and has a planned air-separation unit in Dholera, in the same region, targeted to be finished in the second half of 2027.

The new Sanand facility will supply high-purity gases used in chip packaging, a step in making semiconductors that follows the fabrication stage. Companies reportedly in discussions with Linde for this supply include Micron Technology, the American chip maker that already runs an assembly and test plant in Gujarat, along with India’s CG Power and Kaynes Technology, according to media reports. Linde’s planned Dholera plant is also intended to supply gases to the Tata Group’s semiconductor fabrication plant, a separate large project in the same state.

Why this matters

For American and European suppliers watching India’s semiconductor buildout, Linde’s expansion shows how the industry is growing beyond the fabrication plants themselves. Chip packaging, testing and the industrial gases that support them are becoming a parallel business opportunity in the same Gujarat corridor. A materials supplier moving in ahead of its customers’ plants finishing construction is a sign of how confident global industrial companies are that India’s chip ecosystem will need a full domestic supply chain, not just imported equipment.
