Nexperia and Tata Electronics Strike Semiconductor Manufacturing Partnership

Nexperia, a semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Nijmegen, Netherlands, has agreed to a strategic manufacturing partnership with Tata Electronics, the Tata Group’s chip-manufacturing arm in India. The deal covers wafer fabrication, assembly and testing, and joint technology development, and sits within a combined $14 billion investment across two Tata Electronics facilities.

Nexperia will manufacture its MOSFET portfolio at Tata Electronics’ 300-millimeter wafer fabrication plant in Dholera, in western India’s Gujarat state, and will run assembly and testing of its discrete semiconductor products at a packaging facility in Jagiroad, in northeastern India’s Assam state.

Stefan Tilger, Nexperia’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, said the partnership “brings together complementary strengths across technology, manufacturing and innovation,” according to Tata Electronics. In the same announcement, Achim Kempe, Nexperia’s Chief Operations Officer, said the deal “represents much more than manufacturing,” pairing Nexperia’s semiconductor expertise with Tata Electronics’ manufacturing capabilities to support “innovation, growth, and supply resilience.”

Dr. Randhir Thakur, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said in the announcement that the partnership was “an important step in Tata Electronics’ efforts to build a globally competitive, integrated semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.”

Nexperia ships more than 100 billion products a year and holds a 10% share of the global market for the discrete and analog semiconductors it makes, including transistors, diodes and power devices used across the automotive and industrial sectors. The company frames the India partnership as part of a broader push to diversify its manufacturing footprint and strengthen supply-chain resilience.

Why this matters: For American and European manufacturers watching India’s semiconductor buildout, a European chipmaker committing production volume to Tata Electronics’ new fabs is a concrete test of whether India’s semiconductor ecosystem can absorb outside manufacturing work at scale, not just assembly of others’ chips.
