Google Commits $15 Billion to Build Its Largest AI Hub in India

Google will invest $15 billion over the next five years to establish a major artificial intelligence hub in the city of Visakhapatnam, in the eastern state of Andhra Pradesh, in India. Announced by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, this will be the company’s largest AI facility outside the United States.

The project, estimated at 1 gigawatt in scale, was initially valued at $10 billion by Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Human Resources Development, Nara Lokesh, who described the deal as the result of a year of intense negotiations and a catalyst for future growth. The investment will be executed through Google’s Indian subsidiary, Raiden Infotech, which plans to build three campuses in Visakhapatnam

This move aligns with a broader trend of tech giants ramping up infrastructure to meet soaring global demand for cloud and AI services. In July, Google raised its 2025 capital expenditure forecast to $85 billion, up from $75 billion earlier in the year, and separately committed $25 billion to AI and data center infrastructure across U.S. states.

Kurian said in a statement, “By delivering industry-leading AI infrastructure at scale, we are enabling businesses to innovate faster and creating meaningful opportunities for inclusive growth. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to the Indian and U.S. governments to harness AI responsibly and drive transformative impact for society.”

India continues to attract major players such as Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, positioning itself as a rising global hub for cloud and AI innovation.
