Accenture Expands Further in India

Accenture is planning a significant expansion in India with a new campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, potentially creating 12,000  new jobs.

The consulting and technology services firm has requested approximately 10 acres of land in Visakhapatnam for the proposed campus. While final approvals are pending, state officials have expressed strong interest in the project, suggesting it is likely to proceed. India already serves as Accenture’s largest talent base, with over 300,000 employees — more than a third of its global workforce of 790,000.

Accenture’s initiative aligns with a broader industry trend of investing in India’s tier-two cities, which offer favorable government policies and access to a growing pool of skilled professionals. Andhra Pradesh, in particular, has attracted attention due to its policy of leasing land at nominal rates to large employers, making it an appealing destination for tech giants.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant have also announced new facilities in Visakhapatnam. Cognizant has committed approximately $183 million to its campus, while TCS plans to invest over $154 million. Combined, these developments are expected to generate roughly 20,000 jobs in the region, further solidifying Visakhapatnam’s emergence as a tech hub.

For Accenture, the potential campus not only reinforces its commitment to India but also serves as a buffer against geopolitical and regulatory uncertainties. By expanding in a region with strong government support and lower operational costs, the company can maintain its competitive edge while continuing to scale its global delivery capabilities.

This wave of investment underscores a shift in strategy among major IT firms, prioritizing domestic expansion in India over costly overseas operations.
