Reliance Industries Limited, (India’s most valuable company by market capitalization) just announced that it is developing the world’s largest single-site solar project across 859 square miles of arid land in Kutch, Gujarat — an area three times the size of the country of Singapore.

Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that the project could supply nearly 10% of India’s electricity within a decade. It will integrate with Reliance’s infrastructure in the cities of Jamnagar and Kandla to support large-scale solar and hydrogen operations.
On the site, the company plans to produce and export green ammonia, methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel. “Green” means that the source of energy is not from fossil fuels, but from renewable energy, in this case from solar energy. By 2032, Reliance targets 3 million tons per year of green hydrogen equivalent capacity. (Amritt note: hydrogen is not easy to transport over long distance so they may be using green ammonia, NH3 as a carrier for green Hydrogen H2)
Reliance’s in house solar PV manufacturing platform has begun operations, delivering 200 MW of advanced HJT (heterojunction technology modules) which provide better efficiency and durability. The facility will scale to 10 GWp annually and later to 20 GWp, becoming the largest and most integrated solar manufacturing site worldwide.
Additionally, Reliance is building giga factories for batteries and electrolyzers. The battery plant will launch in 2026 with 40 GWh capacity, expandable to 100 GWh. The electrolyzer facility will begin by late 2026 with up to 3 GW annual capacity.
Kachch or Kutch meaning ‘surrounded by water’ is the largest district in the state of Gujarat. It is surrounded by the Arabian Sea in the west and the south. Kachch is also known as the ‘mystery land’ and is located in a remote area far away from the hustle bustle of the city. It borders Pakistan toward the north.
