On August 23, 2025, Sergio Gor was nominated to be U.S. Ambassador to India. The position has been vacant since Eric Garcetti resigned in January.
Gor, who went to High School here in Los Angeles is currently Director of the Presidential Personnel Office, and a close confidant of President Trump. In addition to being Ambassador to India, Gor will also serve as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
38-year-old Gor is a graduate of George Washington University and will head to India, once confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He was born in Tashkent (now in Uzbekistan) and raised in Malta according to Wikipedia.
In his first term, President Trump had sent Kenneth Juster to New Delhi as Ambassador. I interviewed Ambassador Juster on stage at the Orange County World Affairs Council in March 2023. You can access the video U.S.- India Relations: Today and Tomorrow with Kenneth Juster, here.
