Doing Business in Goa
The official language of Goa is Konkani, with Marathi also being used widely throughout the state. The inland regions are known for their rich deposits of minerals and ores, making mining the second largest industry, after tourism. Notable minerals extracted include iron, bauxite, manganese, clays, limestone, and silica. Siemens of Germany has a manufacturing plant in Goa, for medical devices and other projects. Additionally, the world’s largest production unit, making medical and OTC ointments is located in the state.
Features
Goa, located on India’s southwestern coast in the Konkan region, is bordered by Maharashtra to the north and Karnataka to the east and south, with the Arabian Sea to the west. It is India’s smallest state by area and fourth-smallest by population. Goa’s capital is Panaji, and Vasco da Gama is its largest city.
Historically influenced by Portuguese culture, Goa was a Portuguese overseas territory until it was annexed by India in 1961. Due to this Portuguese influence, soccer is the most popular sport in Goa. As of the 2011 census, the population stood at 1.5 million residents.
Tourism
Tourism is concentrated in the coastal areas of Goa. Goa is well known for its beaches and watersports. Goa has one World Heritage Site: the Bom Jesus Basilica. The basilica enshrines the mortal remains of Francis Xavier, whom many Catholics consider the patron saint of Goa.
Transport
There are two international airports in Goa, Goa International Airport, and Manohar International Airport. Goa has a total of 789 miles of highways throughout the state.
Goa is a sister state to Hawaii as of 2018.
