India’s Aster Medcity, Medtronic, Partner to Deliver Parkinsons Therapy

Aster Medcity, a healthcare center in the city of Kochi (earlier known as Cochin), in India’s south western state of Kerala, is the flagship hospital of Aster DM Healthcare, a healthcare conglomerate founded by Azad Moopen.

This facility has become the first center in South Asia to introduce NeuroNav MER system (Alpha Omega) for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy for patients with Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorder.

Thousands of people in India are diagnosed with movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease. It is the second most common neurological degenerative disease of the brain after Alzheimer’s disease.  1-2% of people over the age of 60 years develop this condition.

Aster Medcity has partnered with India Medtronic Private Ltd for Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder by bringing together Aster’s teams with their medical and surgical expertise in Deep Brain Stimulation therapy, and Medtronic’s suite of DBS technologies along with technical expertise and support.
