Chitra Ramakrishna is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of National Stock Exchange Limited, the 11th largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalization (about $1 trillion and over 1,652 listings).
Born in 1964, Ramakrishna, is an Indian Chartered Accountant by profession. She was part of a team that enrolled the legislative framework for the securities market regulator SEBI in 1987. She was in the five-member team selected by the government to create a screen based (online) pan-Indian stock exchange. She was part of the primary leadership team selected by the Government to set up what became the National Stock Exchange and became operational in 1994. She has handled various operational and strategic aspects for many years during her roles as the Deputy and Joint Managing Director at NSE. Chitra Ramkrishna has been the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of National Stock Exchange of India Limited since April 1, 2013.
Chitra Ramakrishna serves as the Member of Derivatives Panel of Securities and Exchange Board of India. She is a Member of Advisory Committee at NSE of India Limited. She is the CEO of the National Securities Clearing Corporation Limited and is a member of several boards & Policy Committees.
Chitra Ramakrishna was named among the ‘25 Best Business Women of India’ in the year 2008 by Business Today. She has been awarded the ‘Outstanding Woman Business Leader Award’ during the CNBC TV-18 India Business Leader Awards (IBLA) in 2009. She was again named among the ‘25 Most Powerful Women in Business 2011’ awarded by Business Today.
